The X-Men movies are a series of American superhero movies based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. 20th Century Fox bought the film rights for the comics in 1994 and Bryan Singer was the director if the first two X Men Movies, the X-Men (2000) and the sequel, X2 (2006).

Following the immense popularity and box office success of the first two X-men movies, there were seven more such X-Men movies that released between 2009 and 2014. The latest movie on X-Men, which goes by the name, X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to release on 27th May 2016.

Here is a quick look at the different X-Men movies series:

  1. X-Men (2000) – The first of the X-Men movie series, this film introduces Wolverine and Rogue in the conflict of X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants.
  2. X2 (2003) – This film deals with Colonel William Strykar who brainwashes Magneto about Cerebro which is a mutant locating machine created by Professor Xavier. The X-Men in this sequel teams up with the brotherhood of Mutants to save the world against Strykar who wants to become the dictator of the world.
  3. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) – In this movie, a Pharma company develops a suppressor for the mutant gene thereby creating a conflict between the mutant communities. Magneto declares war against the mankind and a battle ensues between the Brotherhood and the X-Men.
  4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) – This movie was directed by Gavin Hood and features the origin story of the Wolverine. This is actually a prequel movie of the X-Men series.
  5. X-Men: First Class (2011) – This movie too is a prequel set in 1962 and was directed by Matthew Vaughn and focused on the origins of Magneto and Professor X, how they became arch rivals from being the best friends earlier.
  6. The Wolverine (2013) – This movie was directed by James Mangold which follows Wolverine after what happens in the movie of “X-Men: The Last Stand”. Wolverine in this movie takes up the task of saving Mariko Yashida, the granddaughter of Ichiro Yashida from the Yakuza and the ninja assassins.
  7. X-men: Days of Future Past (2014) – This movie directed again by Bryan Singer, serves as an original sequence of both the X- Men series of movies, “The Last Stand” and the “First Class”. This movie showcases how Wolverine travel backs n time to 1973 to prevent an assassination that can lead to the creation of Sentinels which eventually will threaten the existence of the mutants and also the mankind.
  8. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) – In this movie which is scheduled to release in May 2016 deals with the first and the most powerful mutant that awakens after several years. He now wants to recruit a powerful team of mutants to exterminate the present mankind and create a new world order which he will reign and dictate.
  9. Logan (2017)- It is also named as Wolverine 3 and early released in berlin on 17 feb 2017, IN USA it is released on 3 March 2017.
